This is an initiative to intervene early in children’s reading to help with decoding words sounding out chunks of letters and to develop good handwriting and sentence construction skills.It targets children from 5 years and 9 months to 6 years and 6 months so it is senior infants and first class children who are taught. The number of children that are taught in any year is between 10 and 12. The recommended time is 30 minutes every day for 20 weeks with an individual child. It involves testing at the beginning and at the end of the 20 weeks.The current reading recovery teacher in St Annes is Gerardine Culhane who completed her training year in 2018.
