St. Anne’s Primary School have been involved with The Green Schools Programme since 2002. The themes we have achieved flags for are as follows:
- Litter and Waste
- Energy
- Travel
- Water
- Biodiversity
- Global Citizenship
From 2016 to 2018, our excellent Green Schools Committee (made up of pupils from Fifth and Sixth) and supported by our dedicated teachers, Mary McDonnell and Gerardine Culhane led us to great success in achieving our sixth green flag. Huge planning, work and effort went into this whole school effort. There was a lot of learning along the way.
Our Green Schools Committee encourage us to buy Fair Trade products and develop our awareness to these products.
The committee went to Mungret Recycling Centre and Sean Hennessy Electrical in Rathkeale to see how electrical waste is recycled.
The whole school participated in ‘Walk to School Friday’ in the month of May, pupils, staff and parents were involved.
Geoff Hunt, Biodiversity Consultant visited all classes throughout the year. He led field-trips to Adare, Curraghchase and Slí na Sláinte.
Representatives from Goal and Trócaire visited the school and developed pupils understanding of Global Citizenship.
The whole school helped out with TLC Limerick Clean up.
On May 3rd a group travelled to Cork to be presented with our new flag.
We are very proud of our achievements with Green Schools.
